…Greetings to all the followers and members of St Lukes Badminton Club. Welcome back after the summer break.
The New season is upon us (in fact one match has already taken place) and we are looking forward to another successful season of Badminton playing in the Bristol / Mid Glos leagues.
St Lukes is fielding 5 teams this season: Bristol Mens in Div2, Bristol Mixed in Div3, Mid Glos Mens in Div1, and two Mid Glos Mixed Teams – one in Div1 and 1 in Div2.
As a club, we are always looking to meet new faces and players who would enjoy playing in a friendly but competitive environment. Please contact us if you would like to join!
… Another roaring win this evening at Redwood Lodge for the Bristol Mens team in Div. 2.
Firstly against Beaufort Park who had 3 stand-ins for the evening. There were some very close games in this match, but the momentum swung repeatedly in the Direction of St Luke’s with excellent serving from Steve in the Second set. However, Beaufort top pair were too consistent and Steve and Stuart lost their opener before winning convincingly in the second against Beauforts weaker pair. In the other game, Matt’s consistency and Jamie’s smashing was working wonders as neither man dropped a set all night!
Next up were Raysfield, who had been demoted from Div. 1 the previous season. The score line was a carbon copy, and so was the play almost with Steve and Stuart losing a tight 3 setter to the weaker Raysfield pair this time before winning in 3 against their stronger pair. The splits were again very tight, but close serving from Stuart and power smashing from Jamie lifted them into an early 6-0 lead in the final set and they never looked back. On the other court, Matt and Steve played consistent badminton to ride home winners in straight sets.
Well played Guys!! One more against Chew Park in 2 weeks, before the Xmas break!
… With the team newly promoted to Div.2 and facing a Severnvale side away at Thornbury who were relegated from Div. 1 the previous season, this was never going to be the easiest opening match of the season. The team were greatly out played by a strong Severvale Team who rode out winners to the tune of 6-0.
This setup a home tie against Severnvales B team for the 2nd match of the season, a little more evenly balanced match this one with the final score of 3-3 being split straight down the middle. Severnvales stronger pair won both their straight matches, fighting off Matt and Jamie 21-19 in the opening game. Steve and Stu winning in 2 quite easily against the weaker pair, before taking their top pair to three begin beaten by excellent serving from the Severnvale pair in the final game.
But, its first points on the board and out of the gate for the newly promoted team in Div.2
